More than 20 years of empowering communities

In 2002, Kitgum NGO Forum – KINGFO was founded by a group of passionate civil society actors with a vision to consolidate and project the NGO/CSO sector as an important sector with a voice and stake in service delivery and development in Kitgum and Lamwo districts. At a time when Northern Uganda was recovering from decades of conflict, the need for coordinated civil society action was more urgent than ever. KINGFO emerged as the umbrella organization to bring together CSOs, NGOs, and CBOs operating across the two districts.

Building solidarity and coordination

KINGFO is a voluntary membership umbrella/network/apex organization of CSOs/NGOs/CBOs with operations in Kitgum and Lamwo districts. The organization was founded to consolidate and project the NGO/CSO sector as an important sector with a voice and stake in service delivery and development in the two districts. KINGFO is registered at the national level with NGO Bureau as a network organization, with the Uganda National Registration Services Bureau as a company limited by guarantee and has entered into MoU with the Local Governments of Kitgum and Lamwo districts.

Growing impact across districts

Over more than two decades, KINGFO has grown from a small network to a forum of over 61 member organizations. Through advocacy, lobbying, and policy influencing, we have become a recognized voice for civil society in Northern Uganda, working in partnership with District Local Governments and Development Partners to bring about equitable development. Today, KINGFO continues to build solidarity among civil society organizations, coordinate development efforts, and create open spaces for lasting systems change — always with a focus on including communities often underserved.
